Courtly Love of medieval times was celebrated by traveling bards and troubadours. Though, the Institute sometimes refers to the fifth and most difficult path to enlightenment as the Path of Courtly Love, a much more appropriate term is the Way of the Gallant Heart. If you look up the words ‘courtly’ and ‘gallant’ you will better understand. The Sufis possess a somewhat similar understanding as to why this pathway, though most difficult, is also the most effective. But, this is for a later time.

Calliope Living In My Heart
Surely, thou are the daughter-divine of Apollo.
Refulgent Muse, moon goddess in the dark night,
Coryphaeus, feeding Wisdom’s Generative Fire.
You feed your poet, both day and night,
mystical milk, warm gushes from fountain breast,
inspirations flowing into your lover’s heart.
Of, goddess divine,
enter into my heart’s most secret chamber,
where our nuptial bed awaits,
resplendent coverlet of burning poetry,
immortal verse, each one, swan’s egg of purest gold.
Sweet Calliope, I long to gaze, transfixed,
uncovered, naked in thy splendor, thee be.
A single star, radiating warmth and light,
into the cold and dark Empyrean emptiness.
Guiding the lyrics and meter of mind’s outflow,
allowing new potentialities to issue forth.
Come to our nuptial bed, sweetheart pure,
your poet lover aches to fill your hollow,
so moist with love.
