Why is it, that we can love and show compassion to animals quite easily and less so than members of our own species?

It depends on the person. Some people treat other people and animals abominably….abusing them because they can. Then there are those that treat other people and animals well. Others are anti-social, or have trouble interacting with people due to physical, developmental, or mental health issues. The relate to, and get along better with, animals than they do with people.
I do my best to treat other people, and animals, the way I want to be treated. I’m a caregiver and helper by nature.
