The prophet Nathan visited David after he took Bathsheba for his wife. Such taking requiring King David to arrange the murder of her husband Uriah at the battle front.

Nathan asked David as to a parable about a rich king who owned many sheep and a poor man who owned but one ewe-lamb. Although, the king had much he forcibly took the lamb of the poor man to fed a guest.

O hearing such King David exclaimed, “The king that hath done that is punishable by death.”

Nathan replied, “Thou art that king.”
