The New Questions Series–Good or Evil Answer

My answer to the question as to Good and Evil.

Greetings, here is a simple question to ponder for this Spring Day.  The concept of good and evil, or good versus evil, continues to occupy the minds of men and women.  Today, we are not going to discuss the nature of evil, how it arose, and so on, which I have discussed before, but a question which actually can be answered if we change our wording slightly.  Rather than good, we shall use the word ‘wholesome’ and rather than evil ‘unwholesome.’

Question:  Generally, can one state, “Regardless of the severity of an unwholesome action or world event, something wholesome can always be found?”

Answer:  First, I requested that we should not answer the question using the nouns, good and evil.  One reason being that these nouns are polarized by nature and attached to God and the angels (good) or Satan and the demons (evil), which adds an unnecessary layer of confusion to the question.  The existence of God and Satan are theological issues and are not needed for conscious evolution and good works.

Second, so to avoid the relativeness of personal opinion as to what one person likes and finds pleasing as ‘good’ and another dislikes and finds unpleasant as ‘evil or bad,’ I substituted  ‘wholesome’ for ‘good’ and ‘unwholesome’ for ‘bad’ The former pair are generally interpreted as nouns while the later pair are always descriptive adjectives defining an event and our response to such.

Wholesome is an adjective meaning conducive to moral or general well-being; salutary; beneficial: conducive to bodily health; healthful; salubrious:

Unwholesome is an adjective which is adverse to wholesome, or negates wholesome.
Keeping the above in mind, we are asked to determine whether or not unpleasant events, especially random and unrelated to our own actions, events happening to ourselves, family, friends, country, or anyone else, which we interpret as unwholesome, are often predecessors to something wholesome.  Especially, when it comes to conscious evolution where spiritual growth only seems to follow times of hardship, the Dark Nights of the Soul.
As unpleasant events happen frequently, as do pleasant ones, the Masters advise that one not identify or buy what happens to you, do not personalize it, but learn to stand back and deal with it in the most wholesome manner available to you.  The situation will still feel unpleasant, but it will not significantly remove you from a stable point of operation.   I recommend reading some Buddhist suttas dealing with the subject.
